Wastewater treatment district, sewer plant

Towns reach deal on sewers Friday, September 24, 2010 1:06 AM EDT

With a piece of the puzze in place, what will Water and Sewer do about the option to have Kraft Group build a plant for us in the Route 1 area? If we’re trying to attract business growth there, we should have them build it so future growth won’t be imperiled due to lack of town services (like the downtown area is now) and we won’t have to shell out even more later when requirements and technologies change.

Wind Turbines

two thumbs up for this!

Can the Renewable Energy Committee get in on this and build one for our use?

  • Renewable energy: Jan. 8, 2008
  • Green Poll: Jan. 15, 2008 Take the poll here (to date 6 people have voted, all “yes”)
  • TM searches and Selectmen’s Squabbles not limited to Foxborough

Norton manager giving notice (Friday, September 10, 2010 3:15 AM EDT)
Double duty for area selectmen (Wrentham, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 1:47 AM EDT)

With Town Administrator Jack McFeeley scheduled to leave Oct. 1……Board members then engaged in an at times heated discussion of e-mails and talks of how and what…..Selectman Robert Leclair questioned how the matter has been handled. “It was not a unilateral decision by the chair,” Langley said…… “We’re sick and tired employees of hearing all this bickering.” ……More than 25 candidates have applied for the position. A seven-member search committee is interviewing candidates Thursday and Friday to come up with finalists for selectmen…….

They’re happy with more than 25 candidates for the job, but Foxborough didn’t like the initial pool of 27 candidates? Being an up-and-coming boomtown (see this video from Ch. 5/projected population spike, new homes, and increased traffic), Wrentham might need a professional headhunter!

Selectmen’s Squabbles are not exclusive to Foxborough.

    Local Chambers of Commerce

There are a few local Chamber of Commerces that cover businesses in town. They are:

Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce – Canton, Norwood, Dedham, Randolph, Foxborough, Sharon, Medfield, Stoughton, Milton, Walpole, Norfolk, and Westwood (22 Foxborough Businesses)

Tri-Town Chamber of Commerece – Foxborough, Mansfield, and Norton (?? Foxborough Businesses)

United Regional Chamber of Commerce / United Regional Chamber of Commerce – Attleboro, Bellingham, Blackstone, Foxborough, Franklin, Mansfield, Medway, Medfield, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleborough, Norton, Plainville, Rehoboth, Seekonk and Wrentham (15 Foxborough Businesses)

Foxborough Junior Chamber of Commerce – Foxborough (?? Businesses)

Easton and Walpole have their own Chambers, for businesses in town only. Could there be an advantage to that or would businesses lose out on expanding influence in the area?

    Why the lone “no”?

Did Brue vote “no” for the hire only because of the discrepancies on the resume (a few job descriptions/dates) or some other reason, such as the litigation or the hire cost. Suppose some answers will have to wait until the newspaper or somebody reviews and reports on the Executive Session for us. Paicos was very upfront about the litigation against himself and other Easton officials by a developer that the insurance company ended up settling; they thought it would be cheaper in the long run to do that than to continue litigation. Not knowing the specifics, it’s difficult to determine if that’s a plus or minus. It was a surprise that Mortenson, who had initially voted against the job offer, voted for the hire- looking at the records and talking to-getting answers from Paicos obviously satisfied the questions and reservations he had about the candidate. All five welcomed him and shook his hand. I don’t see Brue’s no vote as something that will hinder the two working together.

It was good to see Harrington defend Brue’s request for Executive Session even if he didn’t fully agree with the text included in the minutes. Also good to see DeVellis drop the proposed Gag Rule and Mortenson clarify what was and wasn’t said about Walsh. Maybe they’ll all be a happy board now.

    Is Scollins sticking around?

    Economic Development Committee

During their Goals and Objectives session, the selectmen discussed Bradlees Plaza, Route 1, downtown, and other areas for industrial and economic growth. Wondering if we had people in town looking at these issues and seeking out solutions, possible tenants, how to be more business & “I don’t know the town” businesses and developers friendly, and the like, why did not one of them seem to know about the Economic Development Committee?

    Marc Resnick-May 2010
    Mark Grebbin-May 2010
    Michael Saegh, Sr.-May 2010
    Michael Stanton-May 2010

The dates are all May 2010; is the listing out of date or was the committee disbanded?

Planning Department and Planning Board could be useful. Isn’t there still a Downtown Revitalization or Merchant’s committee and a Route 1 Economic Development Committee and Route One Business Association?

  • Foxborough Growth District – GROWTH DISTRICTS INITIATIVE
  • Kraft Group submits plans for….
  • In between the town and state and possible fed $$ and groups, should be a no brainer. Look at the Registry of Deeds site to find the current owner, send out info or make a call to see what their plans are or how the town might be able to help facilitate something getting done-pointing them in the direction of the correct departments to consult with.

How about a Kohl’s or a new grocery store? Police/Fire sub-station or community-youth center? If you’re looking through your cabinets and find something from Almacs, Fernandes, or Ro-Jacks, it’s time to throw it away or sell as an antique!

    What? Was that correct?

Board hires Paicos by 4-1 vote

Andy Gala’s salary upon retiring after 30 years of employment by and service to this town is $133,000, yet the new guy is starting off at a base salary of $144,000????? Is Gala getting (or did he get) some other deal that would in effect make his salary upon leaving much higher than Paicos’ starting salary? Nothing else makes much sense. If the thinking was Gala was being underpaid all these years, this is not the solution to that. This is just insulting to Gala and townsfolks.
